The airport is named after <a href="/facts/Honolulu/DF2WutFs">Honolulu</a> native and <a href="/facts/Medal_of_Honor/aCKrPP3N">Medal of Honor</a> recipient <a href="/facts/Daniel_Inouye/w7yEG4BG">Daniel Inouye</a>, who represented Hawaii in the <a href="/facts/United_States_Senate/VyzXHE01">United States Senate</a> from 1963 until his death in 2012.
