It is a colorless, flammable, <a href="/facts/Neurotoxicity/FrgTICfX">neurotoxic</a> liquid that is used as a building block in organic synthesis. Pure carbon disulfide has a pleasant, <a href="/facts/Diethyl_ether/Ep20vEdj">ether</a>- or <a href="/facts/Chloroform/gvzuJMXa">chloroform</a>-like odor, but commercial samples are usually yellowish and are typically contaminated with foul-smelling impurities. </p>
