Thirty-seventh government of Israel

The thirty-seventh government of Israel is the current <a href="/facts/Cabinet_of_Israel/g3azkmGs">cabinet</a> of Israel, formed on 29 December 2022, following the <a href="/facts/2022_Israeli_legislative_election/vHt1Iz0H">Knesset election</a> on 1 November 2022. The coalition government consists of six parties — <a href="/facts/Likud/sXEchBMf">Likud</a>, <a href="/facts/United_Torah_Judaism/FWssNhPx">United Torah Judaism</a>, <a href="/facts/Shas/9uA9gJlB">Shas</a>, <a href="/facts/Otzma_Yehudit/RllQ9lnI">Otzma Yehudit</a>, <a href="/facts/Religious_Zionist_Party/rwJlDPyK">Religious Zionist Party</a> and <a href="/facts/New_Hope_(Israel)/T2YhBNmq">New Hope</a> — and is led by <a href="/facts/Benjamin_Netanyahu/581DW7MB">Benjamin Netanyahu</a>, who has taken office as the <a href="/facts/Prime_Minister_of_Israel/NcrzDyr9">Prime Minister of Israel</a> for the sixth time. The government is notable for its inclusion of <a href="/facts/Far-right_politics_in_Israel/1sYKy57C">far-right</a> politicians.
Several of the government's policy proposals have led to controversies, both within Israel and abroad, with the government's attempts at <a href="/facts/2023_Israeli_judicial_reform/0wgAh3L2">reforming the judiciary</a> leading to <a href="/facts/2023_Israeli_judicial_reform_protests/TMgtPAEP">a wave of demonstrations across the country</a>. Following the outbreak of the <a href="/facts/Gaza_war/dmUoIpBw">Gaza war</a>, opposition leader <a href="/facts/Yair_Lapid/1LXDcUFb">Yair Lapid</a> initiated discussions with Netanyahu on the formation of <a href="/facts/Israeli_war_cabinet/zoRIFMT0">an emergency government</a>. 
On 11 October 2023, <a href="/facts/National_Unity_(Israel)/1HkKuU6g">National Unity</a> <a href="/facts/Member_of_the_Knesset/nskgkEX0">MKs</a> <a href="/facts/Benny_Gantz/7xL8e3zN">Benny Gantz</a>, <a href="/facts/Gadi_Eisenkot/c5LrSflN">Gadi Eisenkot</a>, <a href="/facts/Gideon_Sa%2527ar/Up4TN4UW">Gideon Sa'ar</a>, <a href="/facts/Hili_Tropper/KrgRbMjP">Hili Tropper</a>, and <a href="/facts/Yifat_Shasha-Biton/YKf9Lsyq">Yifat Shasha-Biton</a> joined the <a href="/facts/Security_Cabinet_of_Israel/WYgxcl4D">Security Cabinet of Israel</a> to form an emergency <a href="/facts/National_unity_government/Tkpepzm7">national unity government</a>. Their accession to the Security Cabinet and to the government (as <a href="/facts/Ministers_without_portfolio/PCmukbeA">ministers without portfolio</a>) was approved by the Knesset the following day. Gantz, Netanyahu, and <a href="/facts/Ministry_of_Defense_(Israel)/ngCFFGLR">Defense Minister</a> <a href="/facts/Yoav_Gallant/qx0JQhsQ">Yoav Gallant</a> became part of the newly formed <a href="/facts/Israeli_war_cabinet/zoRIFMT0">Israeli war cabinet</a>, with Eisenkot and <a href="/facts/Ron_Dermer/0hM6tLxC">Ron Dermer</a> serving as observers. <a href="/facts/National_Unity_(Israel)/1HkKuU6g">National Unity</a> left the government in June 2024. New Hope rejoined the government in September. Otzma Yehudit announced on 19 January 2025 that it had withdrawn from the government, which took effect on 21 January, following the cabinet's acceptance of the <a href="/facts/2025_Gaza_war_ceasefire/TLRwjJvm">three-phase Gaza war ceasefire proposal</a>, though it rejoined two months later.
