<p><i>Macrococcus</i>, (from <a href="/facts/Ancient_Greek/LIK7NlUh">Ancient Greek</a> μακρός (<i>makrós</i>), meaning "long", and κόκκος (<i>kókkos</i>), meaning "kernel" or "<a href="/facts/Kermes_(insect)/40JKD0Mh">Kermes</a>") is a genus of <a href="/facts/Gram-positive/H6WYQ17e">Gram-positive</a> <a href="/facts/Cocci/51QVlEDC">cocci</a> belonging to the family <a href="/facts/Staphylococcaceae/vJLQf0eo">Staphylococcaceae</a>. The genus was created in 1998. </p>
