Patterson claimed the device neutralized radioactivity without emitting any harmful radiation. Cold fusion was the subject of an intense scientific controversy in 1989, before being discredited in the eyes of mainstream science. Physicist <a href="/facts/Robert_L._Park/lb2g6pxv">Robert L.
