<p>The Georgetown–IBM experiment was an influential demonstration of <a href="/facts/Machine_translation/DGF3NwuI">machine translation</a>, which was performed on January 7, 1954. Developed jointly by <a href="/facts/Georgetown_University/GRubgGhB">Georgetown University</a> and <a href="/facts/IBM/QszA7nwd">IBM</a>, the experiment involved completely automatic translation of more than sixty <a href="/facts/Russian_language/ETXrTgHV">Russian</a> sentences into <a href="/facts/English_language/tpkxGt7b">English</a>. </p>
